The first visit

  • In the first visit, Maria will explain the therapy process and discuss issues of confidentiality and consent.
  • Maria recognises that the first session, understandably, can be difficult for people to talk about very personal matters to someone they don’t know. Maria will help you to feel comfortable by asking you common questions to get to know you. Then the conversation will include the reason for accessing support, the impact of the situation and initial goals for change.
  • The first visit can also involve background information to provide some context to the current issues.
  • There may be opportunities for emotional support and initial practical strategies to assist with managing the current issues.
  • Thereafter, Maria will continue to work together with you to understand your experiences and ways to approach the situation.
  • Maria welcomes being asked about her work so people can get a sense of whether she is the right fit for you.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself, just as I am, then I can change.

Carl Rogers

We don’t receive wisdom, we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us.

Marcel Proust

At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.

Frida Kahlo

I swear to you, there are divine things more beautiful than words can tell.

Walt Whitman

I dwell in possibility.

Emily Dickinson
